Think for Actions
My name is Sandra Kadhim and I am an upper year BSc neuroscience student at the University of Calgary. Throughout my university career I have been involved in clinical neuroscience research. Starting this summer, I will be working in the Hill Lab as a summer student looking at the expression of fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), a main metabolizing enzyme of the endocannabinoid system, in the basolateral amygdala. Increases in FAAH have been attributed with the activation of the amygdala and increases in anxiety.
I am a strong advocate for mental health and I have been involved in various mental health initiatives over the past four years. In fall 2014, I became an executive member of the Mental Health Awareness and have since then contributed to dispelling the stigma surrounding mental illness on campus. Further, I have been involved in the largest student-led mental health awareness not-for-profit organization, Outrun the Stigma (OTS). OTS is an annual mental health run/walk with the vision of a world without mental health stigma. Since 2013, we have raised over $78,000 of funds and have created a positive lasting impact in the community. Since our inception as an organization, we have now expanded to Toronto and Edmonton and we hope to continue to expand nation-wide. Aside from research and mental health, I enjoy running, traveling, photography, videography, painting and piano.
I will be working as the Project Manager for the Think for Actions Summer Research Internship 2018. Through this position, I will have the opportunity to expand my managerial skills and gain confidence as a leader. I am so excited to be working with such great group of individuals and I look forward to what we can accomplish as a team!

As a software engineer at University of Calgary, with loads of volunteer experience, he aims to create a technological hub where unfortunate have the access to resources they need, without being judged.
When he’s not programming or reading, you can find him in a restaurant trying out some local dishes or hiking in the Rockies.
In short, it’s safe to say that “he’s a lifelong learner fueled by pizza.”
